How to Face Suffering and Happiness
How does the transformation take place? There are seven methods:
如何转化呢?有七种修法:
Transform Suffering into Renunciation
① 化悲痛为出离心
The rationale is to practice suffering and renunciation together; in so doing, suffering can be effectively transformed into renunciation with excellent results.
这个修法的原理是:把痛苦和出离心融合在一起修持,就可以把悲痛欲绝的痛苦转化为出离心,而且效果非同寻常。
There are two kinds of practice: visualization during meditation practice; contemplation after meditation practice.
修法有两种:打坐观修和出坐以后的思维
Visualization during Meditation Practice:
第一,打坐的修法:
First sit on the meditation cushion in the sevenfold posture of Vairochana, then take refuge and the bodhicitta vow, expel negative chi, and pray that the guru and the Three Jewels dissolve into oneself in the form of light. Next contemplate:
先以毗卢七法坐式坐在禅垫上,然后依次修皈依、发菩提心、排浊气、祈祷上师三宝化光融入自心。之后开始思维:
Samsara is filled with suffering and no one is spared from it. From the leader of a country,high government officials,and the rich to common people, thieves, beggars, and even mosquitos and ants, etc. — they all have suffering. When confronted with suffering, wealth and power are useless. The only way is to transform suffering into the path.
轮回当中不可能没有痛苦,所有众生都一样会有痛苦。上至国家总统、高官富豪,下至平民百姓、小偷乞丐,乃至蚊蚁等小生灵,都有痛苦。遇到痛苦的时候,金钱、权利都无法解决,唯一的方法,就是把痛苦转化为道用。
The cause of my suffering is my own attachment. Once attachment to an object or a person is developed, it will definitely bring suffering.
给我造成痛苦的,就是我自己的执著。对任何东西有执著,它就一定会给我们带来痛苦。
Thus the sutras are replete with the exhortation: Let go!
所以佛经上一再告诫我们:要放下!
