当我们说对上师有信心的时候，我们究竟在说什么？相信他能帮我们解决所有问题？相信他能承诺我们今生的顺利、来世的解脱？还是说，像我们有时在生活中会做的那样，全然信任一个人，不问为什么，就是相信他说的做的都对都好？

As we speak of having faith in the guru, what do we actually refer to? Do we believe that they can help us solve all our problems, and that they can promise us success in this life and liberation in the next life？Or, as we sometimes do in life,we unconditionally trust a person and believe whatever they say and do is right without asking why.

也许，对上师的信心，这些都包括，但还不够，我们还确信上师的所言所行无不代表纯正的佛法，无不是在启发我们发现、对治烦恼，趋近万事万物的实相。是的，是确信，不止是相信。相信是你愿意那么想，确信是你知道事情本来就是那样。这其中的差距来自于你对佛法了解的多少，不仅是理论上的了解，还有真修实证。

Those may all reflect our faith in the guru. Yet true faith requires more. We must also believe with full confidence that every word and deed of the guru represent the pure Dharma and inspire us to be aware of and overcome afflictions so as to get close to the ultimate truth of all phenomena. Yes, you do not just believe but also have full confidence. Believing means you are willing to think this way; believing with full confidence means you know this is the way. The difference between the two is determined by how much you know about Buddhism, not only in theory but also in practice and realization.

你会在上师身上一再见到佛法的样子，他身上反映着他所教导的一切，端看你有没有那个鉴赏力在他或许如凡夫般的示现中辨别出来。他的一言一行，你能透过表面看到它们背后的佛法的逻辑，并能逐渐地欣赏佛法在现实人生中原来有如此丰富的诠释。

From time to time you will see the Dharma in the guru. The guru is the manifestation of everything they teach. But you need to be able to discern this quality of the guru through their seemingly common appearances. Then you can see Buddhist logocs behind their words and deeds, and gradually learn to appreciates such rich interpretation of Dharma in real life.

于是修行对你来说，开始变得生动而直接，书本上的知识活起来，从文字、理论、抽象思维变成具体的行为、生活方式——你不知道怎样实践布施、持戒、忍辱吗？看看上师在做什么，然后你模仿他就好了。你不知道什么是空性智慧吗？看看上师是如何待人接物、处理问题的。或者，你原先没有学过相关的法理，但模仿上师，你自然就在布施、持戒、忍辱、福慧双修了。

As a result, practice starts to be vivid and direct. The knowledge in books becomes alive, allowing you to turn texts, theories and abstract thinking into concrete actions and a new way of life. Not knowing how to practice giving, discipline and patience? Just observe what the guru does and emulate their actions. Not knowing the wisdom of emptiness? Just observe how the guru relates to people and handles problems. Or, if you have never studied those teachings, by emulating the guru you naturally practice giving, discipline and patience and cultivate merit and wisdom. 

这两条路最后汇聚到一点，就是内在的转化——内心变得清净调柔，佛法浸润到你的言行思维中，而不是浮于表面。

The two paths will ultimately converge on one point—inner transformation. Your mind becomes pure and your heart gentle, for the Dharma no longer stays on the surface but has permeated your words, deeds and thoughts.
