【不离】法王如意宝：衡量善知识的唯一标准是什么？

目前有一些出家人，在社会上拥有一点点名气后，便开始傲气冲天，自以为是起来。

Some monks and nuns will become self-righteous and arrogant beyond measure when they gain a little fame in society.

他们认为自己的所作所为一贯正确，不需要再接受任何人的批评与建议。

They believe their conduct is entirely correct and they no longer need anyone’s criticism or advice.

这些人往往是浅薄无知、名不副实之徒。

These people tend to be shallow and ignorant, and they are unworthy of their titles.

而他们身边，也聚集了不少盲目的追随者。

Yet quite a few blind followers have gathered around them.

在我看来，现在大多数人不太具备辨别智者和愚者的能力，

As I see it, most people today do not really have the ability to discriminate between the wise and the foolish.

能慧眼识人的实在寥寥无几。

Very few have the wisdom to recognize able people.

为什么会这样呢？

Why is this so?

就是因为人们不注重佛法的内证功德，

It is because people no longer value the inner realization and merit of Buddhadharma.

看重的只是一个师父的外表与名声。

Instead, they only set store by a master’s appearance and reputation.

如此日久成习，

With the passing of time, this has become the rule.

背离僧侣戒律的非法之徒，常被认为是无拘无束的证悟者；

Monastics who stray from the precepts and behave improperly are often seen as free and unrestrained enlightened ones.

明显的破戒行为，硬要当作独特的善巧方便；

When their behavior clearly violates the precepts, some insist that these are unique skillful means.

阴险狡诈者，被认为具有超胜的智慧；

Cunning and devious characters are seen to possess extraordinary wisdom;

凶残暴虐之人，竟被称颂为“浑身充满英雄气概”；

fierce and cruel ones are even praised as being “full of heroic spirit”;

恶意中伤他人、搬弄是非者，反被交口称赞能言善辩、口才出众……

those who maliciously slander others and sow discord are perversely lauded as eloquent and expressive.

其实，衡量一位善知识的标准，唯一就是看他内在的悲与智

In truth, the only way to evaluate spiritual mentors is to examine their inner wisdom and compassion.

——有没有舍己为天下众生的悲心，

Do they have the compassion to sacrifice themselves for all beings under the sky,

有没有证悟法界实相的智慧。

the wisdom that realizes the true nature of the expanse of reality?

但可惜的是，世人总是背离这样的标准，有意无意被愚痴之见所左右。

Regrettably, the world always deviates from this standard; intentionally or not, it is swayed by ignorant and deluded views.
