要想今生来世拥有好报，务必要有一颗金子般珍贵的利他心。
Having an altruistic heart is as precious as pure gold, and will ensure many good returns in this and future lives.
有些人偶尔帮别人一次，就认为对人家的恩德相当大，
Some people tend to regard themselves as great benefactors if they help another person just once.
如果那人对自己不小心有点冒犯，他就非常生气，并抱怨道：
Should that person carelessly offend them, even slightly, they will fly into a rage and grumble,
“这个人太没良心了！想当初他有难时，要不是我，怎会有他的今天？现在他恩将仇报，不把我放在眼里，还对我如何如何……”
“How heartless is this guy! Had it not been for me when he was in trouble, where would he be today? Now he returns evil for good, ignoring me completely and doing this and that to me.”
有些人没事就喜欢倚老卖老：“我以前什么风风雨雨没见过，想当初我怎样怎样……”一个人讲得手舞足蹈、唾沫横飞。
Others love to get on their high horses and gush as they recount their heydays, “I have managed to survive countless violent storms and tempests in my life by doing this and that...”
有些人自恃广闻博识，常在人前显露自己的功德，以博取众人的喝彩。
Some pride themselves in being well informed and learned, and they relish showing off their qualities and winning public applause.
还有些人只要做了一点点善事，就要上网宣传，昭告天下，生怕大家埋没了他的壮举，不知道他的业绩。
Moreover, there are people who can’t wait to broadcast to the world through the Internet whatever paltry good deeds they might have done, lest their grand acts be overlooked and their achievements go unrecognized.
以上这些行为，若对众生有利，我们也不敢说什么，
The above-mentioned conducts are not for us to judge if they are meant to benefit sentient beings.
毕竟佛菩萨的显现，非一般凡夫所能窥探。
After all, how could ordinary folks truly understand the displays of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas?
但若自己的发心并非如此，只是为了个人的名利，那这种举动，就为大乘行人所不齿了。
However, if the true intention is not altruistic but an aim for personal power and gain, then any such conduct is disgraceful to Mahayana practitioners.
为什么呢？因为大乘主修自轻他重，把众生的利益放在第一，众生的份量远远超过自己。帮助众生，为他们做一点事情，这是理所应当的，又有什么可炫耀的？
Why? Because the main practice of Mahayana is to put sentient beings before oneself, to always consider their welfare as the highest priority. As sentient beings are far more important than oneself, it’s a given to serve and help them. What is there to brag about anyhow?
