Then, in order to restore Chonema's samaya with the Guru, Yeshe Tsogyal, with the Master's permission, first practiced and then taught to her, as well as to many other faithful followers, the sadhana known as Yang Phur Drakma—Vishuddha and Kila conjoined. This has an "upper activity," containing a confession section, related to the root text of Vishuddha, as well as a "lower activity," consisting of a banishment of obstacles associated with Vajrakumara. This sadhana was transmitted by the Lady Tsogyal in both oral and Treasure lineages.
Afterward, the Lady made her way to Mangyul, where the monks, disciples, and the faithful Lodro (whom she had left there previously) received her with great joy, celebrating a ganachakra feast and requesting her to stay there permanently. But she remained only for a month, bestowing on them many final instructions, advice on the elimination of obstacles, the development of meditation, and so on.
Then she went to Tsang, where all the people of the province exclaimed that, whereas the Guru had departed for the land of fierce cannibals, the Lady had, to their delight, come back to them! And having the same devotion for her as for the Guru, they pressed around her so thickly that she could hardly walk. She gave empowerments and instructions and wrought the benefit of countless beings, before going on to Zurpa, where she stayed for a year. There, Nyen Pelyang, Be Yeshe Nyingpo, Lasum Gyalwa Changchub, Odren Pelgyi Zhonnu the younger, Langlab Changchub Dorje, and Dacha Rupa Dorje (who was but a child of seven years) were found ready to receive the teachings. Accepting them as her disciples, the Lady brought them to spiritual maturity and freedom. After this, she made her way to Shang where for three years she lived in the caves of Pama Gang, striving mightily for the benefit of beings.
Later she went to Zabbu, where she remained in the effortless view of Ati, peak of the Mahayana. After one year, her experiences intensified. She was filled with an immense joy and progressed greatly in the practice. It was at Zabbu also that she concealed thirteen great Treasures. Leaving there, she went to Tidro in Zho, where she lived for six years. There her awareness reached its ultimate extent, and the realization of the Great Perfection penetrated her inmost being. The story is also told that she secured the welfare of many dakinis, traveling through sixty-two pure lands. But that tale is concealed elsewhere.
It was at that time that the Lady Tsogyal performed her last series of austerities, sacrificing herself for others. As she herself recalled: "The demonic minister Shantipa, who had caused me so much suffering in the past, had been reborn in the hell called Intense Heat, but with strength and vigor, born from my compassion, I drew him out. The detailed account of how I did so, and how I churned the depths of the abyss, making links between myself and all the beings born in hell, must be looked for elsewhere. In addition, I gave my body to the savage beasts, food to those who were hungry, clothing to those who were cold, medicine to those who were ill, wealth to the needy, refuge to the weak, and my lower limbs to the lustful. In sum, for the sake of others, I gave away my body and my life. It was then, while I was engaged in the virtuous acts of generosity totally beyond self-attachment (even to the point of sacrificing the organs of my body), that both the god Indra and Nanda the naga came and put me to the test.
