Radiant with joy, the Guru smiled and sang:
Kyema!
Mistress, maid of Kharchen,
Listen well, my faithful one!
Should you wish to pass, while in this body,
From this shoreless ocean of samsara,
Rely upon a steersman, an authentic teacher.
Take ship aboard the vessel of the oral teachings!
Hoist the mainsail of profound instructions!
Release the landmark-seeking raven of advice!
Sound the conch!
Destroy the sea serpent of hindrances!
Resist the countering gale of karma with a heavy anchor,
And with your faith raise up a fair and following wind.
Stop the leaks with perfect pure samaya,
And ride upon the waves of instant ripening and freedom,
Arriving at the island of the wish-fulfilling jewel.
There you will rejoice, with all desires granted.
A place replete with treasures will delight and please you,
For all unwanted earth and stones will vanish.
The happy moment of perpetual joy has come!
'My dear child,' he went on, 'what obstacles did you encounter? Or was it easy and without difficulty? When did you get here?' So I recounted to him in detail the many hardships that I encountered on the way, and all the reversals that I had to deal with in Nepal concerning the gold—about my having to pay the thousand ounces, for which I brought a dead man back to life.
'Very good,' the Guru said. 'All these hardships are truly excellent. Innumerable karmic obscurations have been purified. Indeed, you are not a woman who seeks a man with longing.The price you paid was high, but it was good and fitting. You have amassed an immense store of merit and are not at all a woman of rank and lustful passions. The raising of the dead was but an ordinary accomplishment, therefore do not be conceited about it. This young man here is, to be sure, superior to others, and so we will give him the name Arya. And since gold has been paid for him, let us call him Ser-wo, Golden Light.' "
