涅��经中以河流作六种譬喻。依灌顶之涅��经疏卷二十七载，六河即生死河、涅��河、烦恼河、佛性河、善法河、恶法河。此六河皆两两相对，以论究得出不得出生死、得入不得入涅��、能断不能断烦恼、能见不能见佛性、能离不能离恶法、至极不至极善法等。［南本涅��经卷二十一、卷三十、卷三十二］
