掺入香料之汤水,称为香汤,用此以洗净身体。古来四月八日佛诞日,即以香汤灌沐佛像,古时用五色香水,后则以甘草及木甘茶煎成甘茶代用。另洗袈裟亦用香汤。在禅宗所用之香汤,系以陈皮、茯苓、地骨皮、肉桂、当归、枳壳、甘草等七种药材煎成,称为七香汤。[灌洗佛形像经、金光明最胜王经卷七、敕修百丈清规卷上报恩章佛降诞]
