True, the word of the king is powerful, therefore let him say what he wants. But the ministers' counsel also carries influence, therefore let us be decided." And most of the Bonpo ministers pledged themselves in agreement.
But Shupu Pelseng, Drugu Ube, Kawa Peltsek, Chokro LuiGyaltsen, Namkhai Nyingpo, Langdro, Dre, Yung, Nub, and the other Buddhist councillors consulted with each other and said: "Evil times and bitter tribulation for the Dharma! They are plotting boundless, nameless evils against our Lord, the second Buddha. Our great religious king, sky-jewel though he be, is held in no regard. The Dharma will not spread; the Doctrine will not take root; and now they will perpetrate the five sins of immediate perdition. Could death itself be more fearful than this? Even if Tibet were to become a desert, it would be as nothing. Come what may, we must protect our Guru and his Consort." And with these words, they fell silent.
