"And so by stages," the Lady recalled, "I began my search.Not knowing where my future companion would be, I arrived in the city of Kho-khom-hen, at the large market by the southern gate. There, a handsome and attractive youth strolled up to me. There was a gleam of oil on his tanned body. His front teeth were like rows of white shells, and his four canines were like tiny conches curling to the right. His look was open and sincere, and there was a touch of red in the corners of his eyes. His nose was pointed, and in his eyebrows there was a hint of blue. His hair was bound up in a knot turning to the right, and the fingers of his hands were webbed like the feet of a waterbird.
'Lady,' he said to me, 'where are you from? Have you come to ransom me?'
"In answer, I sang to him in the language of Zangling:
Emaho!
Listen now, my brave, my lovely boy.
A woman from the center of Tibet,
I am the lady of the holy Lotus-Born.
Where is your home?
What is the name you bear?
What is the reason of your being here?"
The boy replied:
My town was Serling in the noble land of India.
A heathen stole me from my parents' arms
And in this city sold me into bondage.
Arya Sale was the name my parents gave me,
And here I've lived enslaved for seven years."
