Throughout that period, Buddhist paintings and sculptures disappeared. The Dharma was neither taught nor studied. The temples of Lhasa and Trandruk fell intodisrepair, while those of the provinces were ruined. Now, because the countryhadfallen into such an abject condition, and in order to reestablish the doctrine of the Buddha, the noble Bodhisattva Manjushrisent his emanation, andthe great religious king Trisong Detsenwas born. He invited many learnedscholars from India, among them Shantarakshita, the Bodhisattva from Zahor. Thetemplesof Lhasa, Trandruk, and Ramoche, dear to the heart of thereligious kingSongtsen Gampo, were restored and reconsecrated. But when the preparations werebeing made to construct the temple of Samye, so many obstacles were created by the gods, the people, and the Bonpo priests of Tibet that for atime thebuilding was delayed. There upon, the Abbot Shantarakshita gave this counsel:"No one," he said, "be they humankind or gods or spirits, couldever harm the one who hasattained the diamond body, the lotus-born master of Orgyen.Invite him here, else there will be no end to this adversity—for you, thepatron, and for me, the teacher!"
Theking immediately dispatched three of his courtiers toIndia. They were adherents of the Dharma and trained as translators, and their mission was to supplicatethe Precious Teacherof Orgyen. The three translators came without mishapintothe presence of the Guru and, having delivered the invitation,returned withhim to Tibet. The Tibetan king, his ministers,his courtiers, and his queensfelt an irresistible faith in theGuru. The first reception party went as far asZhongda to greethim, while a second party, nearer home, met him at Lhasa. Andinthe grove of Ombu, the king himself, attended by all hiscourt, took the bridleof the Guru's mount. The minds of theGuru and the king mingled into one. Theking, his ministers,his courtiers, and his queens gazed with devotion upontheGuru and, overwhelmed by the splendor of his presence, feltirresistibly drawnto obey his every word. Even the Abbot Shantarakshita made prostration to the Guru and stayed awhileto discuss the Doctrine.
Then the king,with his ministers and court, the Abbot, andGuru Rinpoche, together with thetranslators, made their wayto Samye, where the Guru examined the site and gavepredictions.
"During the lifeof my forefather Songtsen Gampo," said thepious king, "one hundredand eight temples were built. Butbecause they were scattered throughout the land, it was impossible to maintain them, and they fell to ruin. It is mywish,therefore, to build the same number of temples within the confines of asingle precinct."

寺院遭遇毁坏

重振教法
Now,because the country hadfallen into such an abject condition, and in order to reestablishthedoctrine of the Buddha, the noble Bodhisattva Manjushrisent his emanation, and the great religious king Trisong Detsenwas born.
由于国家沦落到如此悲惨的状况,尊贵的文殊菩萨为了重振佛陀法教,便化身为伟大的护法王赤松德赞出生于此。
Heinvited many learned scholars from India, amongthem Shantarakshita, theBodhisattva from Zahor.
赤松德赞从印度请来许多饱学之士,来自沙霍的菩萨寂护大师即为其中之一。
The templesofLhasa, Trandruk, and Ramoche, dear to the heart of thereligious king SongtsenGampo, were restored and reconsecrated.

虔诚的赤松德赞王修复了心爱的拉萨寺、昌珠寺、热莫切寺,并且重新开光。
祈请莲师入藏
But when the preparations were being made to construct the temple of Samye, so many obstacles were created bythe gods, the people, and the Bonpo priests of Tibetthat for atime the building was delayed.
然而,在准备要兴建桑耶寺时,藏地的神灵、百姓、苯教巫师制造了诸多障碍,使得工程一度耽搁。
Thereupon,the Abbot Shantarakshita gave this counsel: "No one," he said, "be they humankind or gods or spirits, could ever harm the one who hasattained the diamond body, the lotus-born master of Orgyen.
于是寂护方丈建言说:「没有任何人,」他说,
「不管(他们)是人、是神、或是鬼灵,都不能伤害已证得金刚身的鄢金莲花生大士
Invitehim here, else there will be no end to this adversity—foryou, the patron, andfor me, the teacher!"
邀请他来这里,否则这些逆境将会永不止息,不管是对作为支持者的你,或是作为老师的我!」
The kingimmediately dispatched three of his courtiers toIndia. They were adherents ofthe Dharma and trained as translators, and their mission was to supplicate thePrecious Teacherof Orgyen.
Adherent:追随者;拥护者;信徒 An adherent is someone who holds a particularbelief or supports a particular person or group.
国王立即派遣三名朝臣前往印度,三人都是信奉佛法且受过训练的译师,他们的任务就是要恳请鄢金的珍贵上师前来。
The threetranslators came without mishap intothe presence of the Guru and, havingdelivered the invitation,returned with him to Tibet. The Tibetan king, hisministers,his courtiers, and his queens felt an irresistible faith in theGuru.
Mishap:灾祸; 不幸事故;
三名译师平安来到上师跟前,递上邀请之后,与上师一同回到藏地。藏王、大臣、朝臣、王妃们都对上师生起不退的信心。
Thefirst reception party went as far as Zhongda to greethim, while a second party,nearer home, met him at Lhasa. Andin the grove of Ombu, the king himself,attended by all hiscourt, took the bridle of the Guru's mount.
第一批欢迎使节远至仲达迎接上师,第二批使节在较靠近国都的拉萨会见上师,国王自己则在所有朝臣的伴随之下,在翁布的园中亲自迎接上师。
Theminds of theGuru and the king mingled into one. The king, his ministers,hiscourtiers, and his queens gazed with devotion upon theGuru and, overwhelmed bythe splendor of his presence, feltirresistibly drawn to obey his every word.
上师和国王的心意交融一致,国王、大臣、朝臣、妃子们满怀虔诚地直视上师,受其风采的光芒所折服,对他的每一句话语都感到无可抗拒且想要遵从;
Eventhe AbbotShantarakshita made prostration to the Guru and stayed awhiletodiscuss the Doctrine.
即使是寂护方丈亦向上师礼拜,并且停驻片刻,讨论法教。
对人们的影响
Thenthe king, with his ministers and court, the Abbot, andGuru Rinpoche, togetherwith the translators, made their wayto Samye, where the Guru examined the siteand gave predictions.
其后,国王及朝臣、方丈、译师,和莲师一起启程前往桑耶。上师检视了桑耶这个地点,并且给予授记。
