And so the Bon began to weave their evil sorceries:

Power of a weasel's stink,

Pap that's thrown to maw of hound,

Butter lamp that's drowned in gore,

And a strong beast's pitchy fell,

Mighty Tsen and evil fiend,

And the rest . . . all cast and sent!

Nine evil spells they made, and in the same moment, nine young monks were struck down dead, their faces to the ground. But the Lady put spittle in the mouth of each of them and they were restored to life, their wisdom nine times sharper than before. Thus the Bon were worsted in the contest once again.

Making the threatening gesture of the pointed finger in the direction of the nine wizards, Tsogyal spoke the syllable P'et nine times. They collapsed, unconscious, unable to move, reviving only when she uttered the syllable Hung nine times. In like manner, she showed her power over the five elements. She sat upon the air in the vajra posture. From the fingertips of her right hand there came a whirling wheel of five-colored fire so that all the Bon were afraid, and from the fingertips of her left hand came five-colored streams of water swirling down to the great ocean at the edge of the world. With her bare hands she broke away the rocks of Chimphu and molded them into different shapes. She projected twenty-five emanations, identical with herself, each of which performed a different sign of accomplishment.

Throughout Tibet, the Bonpos were the object of universal mockery. "Look!" the people sneered, "they cannot even stand up to a woman!" But the Bon retorted, "Tomorrow our nine wizards will bring down thunder and in a single moment will reduce Samye to a heap of ashes!" And they went off to Hepori, and there indeed they drew the thunder down. But Tsogyal wrapped it all around the tip of her forefinger. And, making the mudra of threatening, she hurled it at the Bon settlement of Ombu so that it was blasted and broken to pieces. Thirteen thunder bolts fell upon the Bon, after which they went to Samye, begging for mercy.

And so it was that the Bon were driven away, having been defeated also in the trial of magic strength. Nevertheless, Takra, Lugong, and certain other ministers could not be ousted, for their power was very great. They went again to Ombu, and there, by means of the nine cycles of Pelmo, the greater and lesser deeds, they cast their enchantments into fire, earth, and air, striving mightily to bring the whole of Tibet down into ruin. The king sent word to the panditas and translators, asking for means to avert this disaster. At that moment, Guru Rinpoche uttered a prediction and instructed the Lady Tsogyal to go and protect the king. Thereupon, in the central sanctuary she opened the mandala of Vajrakila and practiced it. Seven days passed, and she beheld the vision of the deities and demonstrated the power she had attained. The malediction turned upon itself and the Bon became their own executioners. Takra and Lugong and the five other ministers hostile to the Dharma were slain instantly; and eight of the nine wizards were destroyed, only one remaining. Thus it was that by the power of magic, the covens of the Bon were vanquished and laid waste.

 The Benefit of Beings 


苯教施展邪术

具力「赞」和邪魔王

所有鬼灵速降临!

他们施展九大邪咒,马上使九名年轻僧侣遭害,面部朝下,倒地死亡。

但措嘉在倒地僧侣的口中各放一些唾沫,他们就全都复活了,而且智慧更胜过往九倍。于是苯教徒再次于竞赛中大败

措嘉手结威吓印,指向九名巫师,口吐「呸」字九次,巫师们全都倒地不起,不醒人事,无法动弹,直到措嘉说了九次「呼」字才苏醒。



措嘉佛母大显神通


 

In like manner, she showed her power over the five elements. She sat upon the air in the vajra posture. From the fingertips of her right hand there came a whirling wheel of five-colored fire so that all the Bon were afraid,


同样的,她展现了掌控五大元素的力量:她以金刚跏趺坐姿端坐空中,右手指尖放出旋转的五色火轮,使所有的苯教徒皆感到惧怕,




and from the fingertips of her left hand came five-colored streams of water swirling down to the great ocean at the edge of the world.


左手指尖放出五彩的水流漩涡朝下卷至世界尽头的大海;




With her bare hands she broke away the rocks of Chimphu and molded them into different shapes. She projected twenty-five emanations, identical with herself, each of which performed a different sign of accomplishment.


她空手劈开青埔的岩块,并且捏成不同的形状。她放出二十五尊与自身完全相同的化身,每一尊都展现不同的成就象征。

但是苯教徒反驳说:「明天我们的九大巫师会降下雷电,一瞬间就能使桑耶夷成一堆灰烬!」

他们前往哈布尔日山,并且确实在该处降下雷电。但是所有的落雷都被措嘉回绕在无名指尖,

那时,莲师作出授记,吩咐措嘉尊女前去保护国王。于是,措嘉在中央佛堂开显金刚撅坛城进行修法。




Seven days passed, and she beheld the vision of the deities and demonstrated the power she had attained. The malediction turned upon itself and the Bon became their own executioners.


七日后,她亲见本尊现前,并且展现所证得的威力使恶咒回转,苯教徒成了他们自己的刽子手。




Takra and Lugong and the five other ministers hostile to the Dharma were slain instantly; and eight of the nine wizards were destroyed, only one remaining. Thus it was that by the power of magic, the covens of the Bon were vanquished and laid waste.

与佛法为敌的塔克拉、鲁恭以及其他五名大臣瞬间惨死,九大巫师中的八名都被歼灭,只有一人幸活。如是藉由法术的力量,苯众溃败而衰弱。
