想延长寿命、想发财，有什么好办法？

想延寿怎么办？

How can one live a longer life?

问：用什么方法可以帮助父母延寿？

Question: What are ways to help our parents live longer?

堪布答：多为他们放生，多念长寿咒。

Khenpo: Release more captured living creatures in their names and recite more long-life mantras for them.

“苦”到底是什么意思？

What does “suffering” mean exactly?

问：您的书叫《苦才是人生》，那么这“苦”应该怎么理解？

Question: You named a book of yours, Living Through Suffering. How should we understand this “suffering” exactly?

堪布答：“苦”分为两种：一种是粗大的苦，比如头痛、失恋等；

Khenpo: There are two kinds of “suffering”: One is the obvious type, such as headaches or disappointment in love;

一种是细微的苦，指一切无常，任何美好的事物都难逃这个命运，这就是苦。

the other is a subtler one that relates to the impermanent nature of all phenomena. Nothing, regardless of how perfect it may seem, can escape this fate.

《苦才是人生》的“苦”，主要是指佛教中的苦谛，它是跟众生的爱执联系在一起。

The suffering referred to in Living Through Suffering mainly deals with the Truth of Suffering in Buddhism, which is intimately associated with sentient beings’ tendency to crave and grasp.

为什么人们如此空虚？

Why do people feel so hollow?

问：您觉得现在人的精神空虚吗？

Question: Do you feel people are spiritually barren these days?

堪布答：空虚！很多人现在追求的东西，未必是真正需要的东西。

Khenpo: Yes! The things people chase after today are not necessarily the things they really need.

想发财有什么好办法？

Are there good ways to get rich?

问：如何才能发财呢？

Question: How can I become rich?

堪布答：多布施！

Khenpo: Donate more!

做事怎样避免急于求成？

How do we avoid craving instant success?

问：在面临改变时，对自己要求太高、急于求成，该如何？

Question: When turning over a new page in my life, I expect too much of myself and I want to succeed right away. What should I do?

堪布答：有些事情是靠因缘的，别给自己太大的压力，欲速则不达。

Khenpo: The accomplishment of many things hinges on causes and conditions. Do not put too much pressure on yourself. As the saying goes, haste makes waste.

工作很执著，想获取更多，菩萨赞同吗？

I care too much about my job and want to get more out of it. Would the Bodhisattvas approve of this?

问：工作中越努力，好像越执著于工作，希望从中获得更多，

Question: The harder I work at my job, the stronger I become attached to it and the more I want to get out of it.

这不是佛教徒该有的态度，怎么办呢？

This does not seem to be the right attitude for a Buddhist. What should I do?

堪布答：只要不害竞争对手，在此基础上，遇到合适的机会，还是可以积极争取的。

Khenpo: As long as you hold the premise of not harming your opponents, it is fine to work energetically to advance yourself when opportunities arise.

怎样才能“不负如来不负卿”？

How can I manage “to please both the Tathagatas and my sweetheart?”

问：我很想出家，却又放不下家庭，怎么办？

Question: I really want to become a monk, yet I cannot let go of my family. What should I do?

堪布答：呵呵，那没办法出家！

Khenpo: Well then, there’s no way for you to become a monk!

活佛有偏心怎么办？

What to do if a lama shows favoritism?

问：怎样才能不让活佛偏爱一切有钱众生？

Question: How can one dampen certain lama’s preference for wealthy followers?

堪布答：给他多开示钱财的过患。

Khenpo: Let him hear more teachings about the hazards of money.

没钱供养寺庙怎么办？

What do I do if I have no money to offer the monastery?

问：现今重建的寺庙很多，当个人财力不足以供养时，应该怎么办？

Question: Many monasteries are being rebuilt today, yet I do not have enough money to donate to them. What should I do?

堪布答：内心真诚地随喜即可。

Khenpo: Rejoice in others’ merit from the bottom of your heart. That will do.
